240, 260 or 280cm: Choosing widths for hotel linen
Confirm fabric width early when sourcing hotel bedding materials. The appropriate width helps build a cutting layout and estimate material requirements for the planned product.
Does a wider fabric always save material?
Material use depends on cutting-piece dimensions and layout. A wider fabric may suit one product but leave substantial remnants for another.
Calculate from the actual cutting layout rather than assuming the widest fabric is always the best option.
Include production allowances
When choosing width, consider seams, plackets, hems, construction and any allowances in the workshop's process.
Any shrinkage allowance should use test results for the actual fabric. Do not apply one percentage to every material.
Compare widths by fabric range
| Products | Composition | GSM | Width |
|---|---|---|---|
| T233 Cotton | 100% Cotton | 130 | 240 cm |
| T250 CVC | 55% Cotton / 45% Microfiber | 147 | 240 / 260 / 280 cm |
| T300 CVC | 80% Cotton / 20% Microfiber | 135 | 260 / 280 cm |
| T350 Cotton | 100% Cotton | 127 | 280 cm |
| T200 | 100% Microfiber (Polyester) | 120 | 240 / 260 / 280 cm |
Compare cost by finished product
Price per linear metre is only part of the calculation. Also consider metres used, cutting remnants and processing costs.
A budget by finished product provides a better basis for specification selection than comparing fabric unit prices alone.
