Fabric catalogues for distributors: Separate codes for clearer advice
Distributors need a catalogue that identifies the correct material when customers request prices. Separate product codes from colour, surface and width options, and keep similarly named lines distinct.
Group fabrics by purchasing needs
A practical structure includes Cotton/CVC for hotel bedding, Microfiber, lining fabrics and TPU waterproof fabric. Patterned or coloured Poly lines should have distinct names and specifications to avoid confusion with white hotel fabrics.
The first conversation need not cover every product. Identify what the customer intends to make, then present the relevant range and codes. This organises the discussion; it does not replace sample assessment.
Use one consistent record per code
A catalogue record should contain the confirmed code, name, composition, GSM, widths, colours and surfaces. Attach options to the correct code rather than copying from a similar line. For example, T233 Cotton is plain white only at 240cm.
T200 and Poly 120gsm plain/stripe are two separate lines. The lining range also has three separate records: plain 70gsm, embossed 70gsm and embossed 85gsm, all white and 240cm wide.
Do not invent missing catalogue options
If a code has no confirmed width or pattern option, record the customer’s needs as a separate enquiry. Do not fill VTEX catalogue gaps using another supplier’s specifications. Do not invent shrinkage, colourfastness or washing instructions.
Direct customers to the correct product page and specification table rather than sending an isolated image without a product identifier.
Combine requirements in one B2B enquiry
List each code, width, colour, surface and estimated metres, plus delivery area and required timing. On VTEX, select “Agent / distributor”, add the relevant products and enter contact details once.
The catalogue identifies products; it does not confirm inventory or a price for every order. Supply arrangements and commercial terms should be discussed for each distributor’s actual requirements.
