Stock fabric or a production order: Which purchasing option fits?

Stock fabric and production orders should be assessed for the specific code. The appropriate option depends on required specifications, available metres and when the workshop needs the material.

Confirm stock for the actual specification

Total warehouse metres do not establish availability for each code. State colour, surface and width, and ask how many metres are available in that combination. Specify any requirement for the entire order to use the same specification.

For example, white T200 has 240/260/280cm widths, while coloured stripes are 240cm only. Stock in one colour or width cannot automatically substitute for another option.

When should additional production be discussed?

Discuss additional production where available stock is insufficient or recurring purchases are planned. The supplier should check the code, specifications, quantity and schedule before confirming. Do not assume every custom requirement can be produced.

Factory partner capacity describes manufacturing capability; it does not establish the schedule assigned to a particular order. Confirm production, completion and delivery arrangements separately.

Compare schedules and commercial terms

Compare both options for the same code or material requirement: metres supplied, proposed delivery timing, destination and included quotation charges. Do not assume stock is always cheaper or production orders are always better.

If combining stock with additional production, clarify identification for each delivery and sample comparison requirements. Establish which portions are confirmed and which remain under discussion.

Prepare the information VTEX needs

Send code, colour, surface, width, total metres and required timing. State whether one delivery or staged deliveries are possible. VTEX checks available stock or discusses production with partners for the specific request.

Finalise production plans after quantities and supply schedules have been agreed. Catalogue information supports material selection; delivery arrangements are confirmed during order discussions.
